چکیده

Two types of coders dominate the field of video compression research today: well-established hybrid coders, that are in the core of all MPEG and H.26X standards, and emerging three-dimensional (3D) subband coders, largely inspired by the success of wavelet-based still image compression. However, there are surprisingly few results reported on 3D transform coding based on the discrete cosine transform (DCT). Even while exploiting all the beneficial properties of the DCT itself (forward/inverse symmetry, fast separable implementation, and excellent energy compaction), these coders under-perform when compared to competing hybrid coders primarily due to inefficient quantization, scanning and entropy coding used. In this paper, we study means of improving 3D-DCT coding by proposing adaptive scanning order and quantization of coefficients that are better matched to 3DDCT spectrum of a motion sequence. Our results show significant improvement in performance over previously reported techniques.

Advanced Motion Modeling for 3 D Video Coding

Driven by new multimedia applications and the growing demand for more flexible and efficient transmission of video, a new approach to video coding has been recently proposed as an alternative to classical hybrid schemes. Instead of sequential frame-based predictive processing, the new approach is based on spatio-temporal 3D transforms, open-loop nonpredictive processing, and embedded quantizati...

Derivation for Adaptive Scan of Intra Prediction in Video Coding

H.264 [1] and AVS [2] are the emerging state-of-art video coding standards, in which the block-based hybrid coding framework is employed. DCT or its approximation such as Integer Cosine Transform (ICT) is the centerpiece for signal decorrelation and energy compaction. After DCT, the transform coefficients are quantized and scanned into one-dimensional (1-D) signals, named run-level pairs. The k...

Motion analysis in 3D DCT domain and its application to video coding

Global, constant-velocity, translational motion in an image sequence induces a characteristic energy footprint in the Fourier-transform (FT) domain; spectrum is limited to a plane with orientation defined by the direction of motion. By detecting these spectral occupancy planes, methods have been proposed to estimate such global motion. Since the discrete cosine transform (DCT) is a ubiquitous t...

Detection of perturbed quantization (PQ) steganography based on empirical matrix

Perturbed Quantization (PQ) steganography scheme is almost undetectable with the current steganalysis methods. We present a new steganalysis method for detection of this data hiding algorithm. We show that the PQ method distorts the dependencies of DCT coefficient values; especially changes much lower than significant bit planes. For steganalysis of PQ, we propose features extraction from the e...

3D Scan-Based Wavelet Transform and Quality Control for Video Coding

Abstract Wavelet coding has been shown to achieve better compression than DCT coding. This method outperforms DCT JPEG codecs and moreover allows scalability. 2D DWT can be easily extended to 3D and thus applied to video coding [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8]. However, 3D subband coding of video suffers from two drawbacks. The first is the amount of memory required for coding large 3D blocks; the seco...
